Once you know the basics of quilling its time to take things up a notch. Learn something new. After all... you're never too old to learn something new.
In this tutorial I will show you how I created these little quilled flowers from just pegs - the most basic quilled shape. The 3D effect adds depth and these little flowers are perfect for fillers in your work.
All you will need is
* Quilling strips ( I've used 5mm ones here)
* Your trusty quilling tool
* Clear drying glue
* Pearl embellishments (optional)
* A tapered top pen
Since these are five petal flowers, you'll need to quill some pegs in multiples of five.
Use the tapered end of the pen to gently push the centre out. You have to do this to all the pegs. Be very gentle at this step because if you push with too much force, the entire peg may unravel.
Once you have done that, push the edges of the peg towards each other. This works because of the slight depression we have created by pushing out the centre. Now that it's turned into an oval, pinch the corners together to make the edges more prominent.
At this point, double check to make sure they are all the same size. This is the last place where you'll be able to make minor adjustments in the petals.
Add a little glue to the inside of the petals and spread it around evenly making sure the glue reaches all the way around the petals. Leave them to dry completely.
Assemble your flowers by sticking five petals together.
Once dry, you can add a little sticky embellishment to the centre.
And there you have it. It gets easier the more you practice. Hope you give these a go. And remember, the most important thing is to have fun while exploring your creativity.

PS~ If you do try out this technique, I'd love to see it.
