Upcycled planters diy

I’m all about upcycling and trying to waste wherever possible. I also love cacti and succulents, so I thought why not tie the two together.

All I needed to do this was some empty sardine and tuna tins and for the larger bottle I used the 4” bottle my pups probiotic powder came in.
You will also need:
* A hot glue gun or some sort of quick drying glue.
(Personally I prefer the hot glue gun because I’m quite messy with glue and I’ve had my fingers stuck before. )
* Some rope or cord
* Glitter
* White PVA glue
* A clear coat acrylic spray ( to seal in all that glitter)
* Acrylic/ fabric paint (optional - with paintbrush, water container to wash your brush and a cotton rag to clean up after)

Wash your empty tins well and allow them to dry completely. If I don’t have the patience to wait, I just lay them in the sun for a while.
Also, be careful of that inner edge. It can get quite sharp in some places.

With your hot glue gun or quick fix, begin sticking your rope or cord just below the top lip of the tin and just keep winding and sticking as you work your way down to the bottom of the tin.

For the bottle one, I decided to cover only the top of the bottle with the rope. Then I brushed on some white PVA glue and rolled the bottle in some glitter.
Leave it to dry completely before you spray the glitter with your clear coat acrylic spray.

* Be sure to read the instructions on your can before using your clear coat spray.

This is how I’ve left my new upcycled pots. My planters are mostly black and white with a hint of silver, copper or rose gold.
But if you want to add a pop of colour, just go right ahead and paint that rope with the acrylic/ fabric colours of your choice.

I’d love to see your work if you give this a try. Let me know where I can view your upcycled planters and I’ll pop right over.
