Decoupage Night Lights

Decoupage is the art of gluing pieces or strips of paper onto an object to give it a new look. You can use almost any fine paper for this art - right from decoupage papers to tissue papers or thin handmade papers to magazine cutouts.

The word decoupage is derived from the French word 'découper' which means 'to cut out' or 'to cut from'.

Decoupage is fairly easy and all you need are a few inexpensive materials. Almost anything can be covered using this art form: pots, boxes, glasses, mirrors, frames, furniture, vases, trays, plates, lampshades etc. The list is endless.

For these two variations on night lights, I have used thin handmade paper on glass with a few cutouts I punched out from coloured craft paper.

The tea lights do get quite hot when left lit for a while and can crack the glass and ruin your work. So what I like to do is add a little wet sand or some water into the bottom of the glass before I light my tea lights for this wonderful effect.
